About AJ
AJ Lamarque is an award-winning comedian, presenter and science communicator who makes complicated things funny — and funny things genuinely educational. He's hosted and headlined events nationally for organisations including Canva, UNSW and SXSW Sydney, and is a regular voice on ABC Evening Radio across NSW and ACT.
AJ holds a degree in biomedical science and spends his spare time studying Middle Egyptian hieroglyphs — an unlikely combination that shapes everything he does on stage. His talks explore human behaviour, culture, leadership and how we connect in modern life, delivered with the same rigour and pace whether he's addressing a comedy festival crowd or a science symposium. He's also a passionate basketball player and advocate for diversity in sport, bringing that same well-rounded perspective to corporate rooms.
His hit live-show series, A Beginner's Guide to..., has sold out venues nationally by treating history and science like the best story at the party. Whether he's MCing a black-tie gala, hosting a science festival, or interviewing a federal minister on stage at SXSW, AJ Lamarque brings a rare combination: credentialed enough to earn the room's trust, and funny enough to keep it.
Where you’ve seen AJ before
Radio, TV & social media
Since 2024, AJ has shared strange and funny news stories on ABC Evening Radio with Renée Krösch, making him a regular voice in NSW and ACT households. On screen, he's won on SBS's Celebrity Letters & Numbers and spoken on inclusion in sport for ESPN, while his social channels reach a growing audience with stories from history and science. As a writer, he's contributed to Gruen and Question Everything with Wil Anderson, and worked with production companies Matchbox and Wintergarden Pictures on scripted development.
Live shows & podcasts
Having sold out every show he's toured in the last four years, AJ has entertained thousands of audiences across Australia. He's hosted the Melbourne International Comedy Festival's Comedy Zone, served as Official Ambassador for the Sydney Fringe Festival, and been named a Creative Australia Future Leader. His stage credits include Mardi Gras' Laugh Out Proud Gala, the OzAsia Festival Great Comedy Debate, The Comedy Store and Comedy Republic, plus support slots for Juno Birch and Sashi Perera. He's also a regular podcast guest, turning up everywhere from A Rational Fear and The Bugle to the cult D&D favourite Acquisitions Incorporated.
Corporate events
When organisations want someone professional, engaging and unique to host their events, they turn to AJ. He's brought that to the Australian Museum's blockbuster Ramses and the Gold of Pharaohs talk series, TimeOut Sydney's Arts & Culture Awards, UNSW's SciFest, and SXSW Sydney, where he went one-on-one with the Federal Minister for Industry & Science, the Hon. Ed Husic MP. In 2025 he was also named Pride in Basketball Ambassador for Basketball NSW and took home the Pride in Sport Positive Media Award.
